Diamond tools consist of diamond abrasive and the bond in which diamond grit is embedded. Good diamond tool manufacture is a function of balancing firm particle retention with wear – resistance, taking into account the properties of the material to be worked on and the abrasiveness of the slurry. 

A well made tool is one where the bond will hold the diamond particles firmly in place during cutting/ drilling/ grinding etc. At the same time the bond will wear away with the diamond grit just enough to keep the points sufficiently exposed.
